Procyon

Procyon

Procyon

Sharp toothed Herald of the Burning Jewel of Summer

Tawny furred hunter stretched across the body of night

Barking soldier wrought from the screaming light

Swift and cunning beast howling from the East

The Bane of Witches set to defend and feast

Here His serpent feet take root

Here The Herald hunts and dreams in yellow ochre

Here is His heart

Here is His light

Use it well

Canis Minor in Latin, commonly known as Procyon, the Lesser Dog star, preceding and heralding the heliacal rising of Sirius, is one of the 15 Behenni referenced by Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa in his Three Books on Occult Philosophy. Procyon is said to be of the nature of Mercury and the complexion of Mars, it makes you bold and reasonable, and gives the power to conquer.

"Under the Lesser Dog Star they made the image of a cock or of three little maids; it conferreth the favour of the gods, of spirits, and men, it giveth power against witchcrafts, and preserveth health."

Three Books of Occult Philosophy  - Tyson Edition - Bk. II, Chapter 47

The stone that is attributed to Procyon by Hermes Trismegistus and Agrippa is the Agate with the attributed plants being Marigold, sometimes Heliotrope, and Pennyroyal. Agate is a type of Chalcedony, a semi-precious banded stone that can be found in a wide variety of colors; magically, Agate has been utilized for healing, to impart victory and invincibility, and to increase eloquence, sociability, and persuasive power. Pennyroyal, alacritous and defensive, is a plant known for centuries of use as a dispeller of evil and malefica, and as a strong defender against such forces that would cause you harm - a quality heavily reflected in the light of Procyon. Lastly, we find Marigold being attributed to Procyon, a plant of extreme protection and purification, and a strong anti-witchcraft plant. Building a foundation on these qualities, all Haus Procyon wares contain Agate in several forms, Marigold, and Pennyroyal, with additions of other materia rooted in tradition and living practice to further bolster the light contained within these wares.

Procyon, like all stars, is vast and complex in its nature, capable of being worked towards myriad ends, some of which are detailed below:

Againt witchcraft and the evil eye there are few defenders more capable of protecting you than Procyon, a staunch protector capable of cleansing and removing all blockages, stagnation, and malefic buildup. This sharp-toothed Herald can also bring quick bursts of success and victory when needed, though these bursts of success are not wholly beneficial to long-term goals, though when it comes to short-terms goals or when you need to “get the ball rolling” we can call on the aid of this quicksilver star. As a fiery summer star, entreats can also be made to Procyon for the bolstering of courage and boldness - to strengthen and empower you to go after what you want - to attain the goal that you have set your sights on.

While the above is what we know that we can go to Procyon for, the eyes of the witch are larger than any stomach and they see more - for the witch, Procyon is the shape-shifting hunter, the barking Herald of Sirius, a swift and cunning serpent capable of guiding the witch or worker in methods of spirit-flight, particularly in canid form, of hunting that which would hunt you, and to impart one with a quicksilver tongue and persuasive power among much else left unsaid. This is a short snippet of what we can approach Procyon for, though I encourage exploration: let innovation and spirit contact be your guide in navigating the work of this heavenly body.
