Charms and Talismans

A marriage of impulse, spirit, and form.

A charm or talisman is an object made to carry a particular virtue, power, or purpose: a vessel for spirits that extend beyond this physical form that they have been given. Some are fashioned in accordance with talismanic traditions, planetary images, or inherited magical formulae; others arise through more personal, peculiar, and intuitive means guided by the hands of the patroning spirits. 

Haus of Ophidious draws much of its inspiration from natural forms: the shapes, structures, textures, remains, and peculiarities found throughout the natural world. I work primarily in sterling silver, leather, sinew, natural stone beads, minerals, and bone, allowing the inherent character of each material to become part of the charm or talisman itself. While many of these materials can be decorative, and often that is a component of the work, each item used to create a charm or talisman is chosen for its nature, by the dictation of spirit, and its inherent capacity to participate in the work being performed.
